On Sunday, Don, Smarty and I went to Langus Riverfront Park in north Everett. The park is out on Smith Island in the Snohomish River Estuary, a flat area with many channels of water where the Snohomish River meets the saltwater of Possession Sound.
It would have been a great choice for us, if we had not already walked a couple of miles earlier that day. The three-mile loop trail leads through the picnic area and then follows the Snohomish River east before looping back. We were all too tired to make it that far. We followed the trail under I-5, then walked along the river for a little way before turning back.
Whenever I’m by the Snohomish River, I’m always amazed to see boats zooming up and down it. It’s a much tamer river than the one I grew up on and is used for leisurely boating as well as fishing.
