Smoky Sunsets

Last week our skies filled with smoke from wildfires up in Canada. It was thick enough smoke that it didn’t make for the most glorious sunsets. The sun actually disappeared behind the smoke about a half hour before it set but I went down in the valley and took a few shots anyway.

This week, the winds have shifted and it feels like we’re getting some cooler, fresh air off the Pacific. It’s heavenly!

  1. Very dramatic photos, esp. the last two, even though the colouring is due to unfortunate circumstances in Western Canada. My eldest daughter lives in Calgary and she struggled with the extreme heat and air quality there. Glad you’re experiencing cooler breezes.

    1. I haven’t heard anything about the fires or the smoke this week so I’m hoping they got the fires extinguished. I’m worried this is going to be a persistent problem for us out here if we don’t get some rain soon.

  2. You got some really nice photos. I was too glued to my fan to venture out with my camera, so kudos to you!

    1. I think the thicker smoke helped cool things off for us up here in the north end. Last week wasn’t too bad. Our temps were quite a bit cooler than predicted, for which I was very grateful! I’m loving this cooler weather and hope forecasters are wrong about things heating up again this weekend. 😦

    1. Having fires nearby has always made me feel uneasy too. We used to have a lot of them in the mountains around the valley where I grew up and it was scary.

  3. Love those silhouettes Trisha.
(BTW looks like I’ve missed quite a few posts of yours…..and maybe other people as I’ve had so few new post notifications recently. Looks like my WordPress has been playing up).

    1. Thank you! I do wish I could find an old barn to silhouette against the sun. Maybe I’ll be able to find some different things to silhouette once the sunset moves southward again.
